Long before I started doing glass and making jewelry, I was a writer. I still am.
And I do love a story, writing them, reading them, hearing them. One of the great things about selling art glass jewelry is meeting the wonderful people who are interested in my work and buy it as a gift for someone special. At Christmas, a granddaughter bought a butterfly pendant for her grandmother, whose nickname is “Butterfly”. Often a boyfriend buys something his girlfriend picks out, or a husband tells his wife, “Go ahead – treat yourself”, or a mother buys for her daughter, or a friend for another friend. I enjoy seeing the faces light up, the buyer’s joy at finding something “just right” for someone special to them.
On Feb. 5 & 6, 11 to 3, I will be having a “Valentines’s Day Love Story” sale of my art glass jewelry at My Just Desserts, 31. E. Broadway, Alton, Illinois, a lovely place to have a delicious lunch, see the river from the windows, stop on your way to eagle-watch, and have a slice of homemade pie, truly the “Best Pie on the River Road!” http://myjustdesserts.org/
I hope you stop by and take a look at my handmade, locally crafted dichroic glass jewelry. Maybe you will find something special for someone you love, or for yourself. If you do, I hope you’ll share your story with me – because I do love a story!
And while you are there, you might want to order a Red Velvet Cheesecake for Valentine’s Day (pictured above). It’s sure to be a big hit! (I bought the My Just Desserts Red Velvet Cup Cakes last year – you won’t be sorry!)
“Remember to be gentle with yourself and others. We are all children of chance and none can say why some fields will blossom while others lay brown beneath the August sun. Care for those around you. Look past your differences. Their dreams are no less than yours, their choices no more easily made. And give, give in any way you can, of whatever you posses. To give is to love. To withhold is to wither. Care less for your harvest than for how it is shared and your life will have meaning and your heart will have peace.”
Just yesterday I donated a necklace & earrings set to a fundraiser for breast cancer research. What is it about giving that feels so good? I think I enjoy giving my work away more than I enjoy selling it. Maybe because giving is a way of expressing myself – Here, world, I have something to offer – a gift of grace was given to me, so I pass it on, pay it forward…and my gifts to others give back to me in this way…
Or maybe it’s just my Valentine’s Gift to “the Universe” – thanks for my gifts of grace…
My next jewelry sale – Feb. 6 & 7, 11AM-4PM – My Just Desserts, Alton, IL, downtown at 31 E. Broadway – millifiori hearts, dichroic glass dainties, soft pinks and burning red sets – for anyone you love, and anyone who loves art, glass, and affordable jewelry – plus “Best Pies on the River Road!”.
